Metrosexual

Meanwhile, a long, long way from Jesusland...

France now has a gay TV channel called Pink TV, sponsored by TF1, Canal+, M6 and le tout-Paris. It includes a daily Wonder Woman episode and four porn movies a week. Details and more details. Its ad campaign has some catchy slogans and images: Liberté, égalité, télé. They did get a little carried away with this one, this being Armistice Day and all. I noticed their (many and very visible) ads in the subway get defaced almost as badly as Le Pen ads, so all is not rosy yet (sorry).

I did see the letters "PD" and bawdy comments squibbled on some of these ads, but on the whole, I find that they are rather left alone. I didn't see any fascist remark or drawing. Probably depends on metro stations. I expected it to be much worse in our area...

Meanwhile, back in "Jesusland," Viacom announced their 24-hour gay channel back in May.

Xof: I saw several ads that were ripped up. At the Nation RER station, I think. That's quite unusual.
Chris: Viacom is located in the United States of Canada.

"Squibbled": that's a wonderful one. Almost like Gloria's invention "scrampled" (crumpled and scrambled).
Wouldn't you say scrawling "PD" is insulting? Of course, it's mainly just a cheap thrill for the kids who do it. The ones at St Mandé Tourelle have the guys' earnest, open, inviting faces crossed out. Too handsome to be looked at...

Yes Kai, I've seen it too. I agree, it's unusual. But many people won't notice I guess. To me, it's not grossly insulting.
Yes Anita, PD is insulting. But it's also short and very common : gays use it all the time...
What I meant is that all in all, reactions are rather unspectacular. I've seen the boys' eyes blackened, too. But that has happened to other "straight" ads, so... I will ask other gay friends what they think.
As for "squibbled", I knew I meant "scribbled" when I pressed [POst] :-) The pronunciation similarity made me laugh, I must say... I checked it out in my dictionary : it's not there. I think I've met that word in a book for children though.

Well Pascal and Gwendal agree : rather little tagging on PinkTV ads. As for Rainbow Attitude, none ! I haven't seen any comment on any of the ads.

OK, this United States of Canada thing. I'm the one-man backlash comin' atcha. And this is the question: does anyone actually know what outback Canadian political attitudes are? Because I've got a feeling our neighbor to the North probably looks a lot like America: little towers of cold, rational blue in a sea of bloody red.

    Here we are now !
There are at least two PinkTV ads on each station of the 4th subway line, an important one, and a few days ago, all of them have been sgwibbled with real insults, or torn.
I was wondering whether the enormous amount of ads everywhere in the city was about to shut up, at last, my dear enemies. But, bloody hell, they eventually woke up !

    I can't help :
Adbusters in Paris use to systematically scribble all subway ads, too. And these political happenings aren't well seen by the population. ...Maybe this that's the reason why it's a long time since we haven't seen a redecorated station.
The left of the left has become a bit of outdated in France - "ringard", I mean. Maybe homophobia would eventually end like Marx... It seems to me that the "rosy" process is the same : smiles are stronger than pride. For once, I don't complain.

    I can't help again :
